where are we?

Hey girlfrieeeeend. Welcome to my Internet Bedroom.

this is actually my mom’s teenage bedroom

I like to think of this lil newsletter as my slice of the Internet, a place where I can think and write as deeply (or shallowly) as I want about all things girl culture and nostalgia.

Think of this newsletter like a fanzine or an old Livejournal account or an actual bedroom where we just cut out pictures from magazines and stick all the stuff we love to the walls and make little shrines and then just sit and stare at everything while we cry.

who are you?

this is a picture of my face the one time I used eyeshadow

hiiiiii <3 my name is rachel moss, and for the past ten years I’ve been writing about and thinking about and researching girl culture.

Doing this, I somehow got a doctorate, and then I abandoned academia so I could just be a full-time writer. Right now, I’m working on the first book of mine that I hope will be read by more than just 10 people (the first two are academic books, ugh). It’s called The Girls’ Room: Bedroom Culture from the 1990s to y2k and Beyond.

other credentials include:

  • former career as the music columnist for my high school newspaper

  • too many hours logged on Dollz Palace, AOL Instant Messenger (sn: rachbabe2008), and Xanga in the mid-2000s

  • being a known goofy depressed idiot

what’s the deal with subscriptions?

Right now, subscriptions come in two flavors:

  • if you just give me ur email (a.k.a. you’re a free subscriber), you’ll get new issue of this newsletter delivered straight to your inbox every other Wednesday at exactly 5 p.m.

  • if you give me your money (a.k.a. you’re a paid subscriber), you’ll get a new ish of Internet Bedroom delivered to your inbox every other Wednesday, but you’ll also get:

    • access to the paid subscriber chat where you can vote on newsletter topics and share in the online sleepover type vibes we are cultivating

    • digital PDF copies of any zines (like my zine of “comics” “criticism,” See You in the Dollar Bin) that I publish throughout the year

    • access to the full Internet Bedroom archives so you can go back and read all your fave issues again and again and again

    • my undying gratitude cuz I really am a full-time writer thanks to you guys

So if you like…

  • 1990s & 2000s nostalgia

  • girl, Internet & celebrity culture

  • Livejournal-style vulnerability

  • essays in which the pop culture is personal

  • memories of your teenage bedroom

…then subscribing to Internet Bedroom might just be for you!

ok byeeeeee <3
