There’s this really quiet place I go when I’m writing. If you see me at the movies or driving around aimlessly, that’s where I’m trying to get to: that really quiet place where I don’t feel like I have to perform for anyone and the ideas can show themselves to me how they want to. That place is so intimate and personal to me that it’s been a relative rarity in my life to ever show anyone the writing that comes out it. Until I wrote that essay about Red Pill content and published it to the Internet, I guess.

Publishing that essay to Internet Bedroom changed a lot for me. When I started this newsletter, the tone was pretty light and irreverent and I felt like, in order to hold attention online, I couldn’t get super deep or I’d risk boring readers or scare away potential readers. I still like that side of Internet Bedroom, but I appreciate that you all are willing to grow and change with me and you’ll read something that’s maybe a little darker, a little more complicated. Something that doesn’t have as clear of answers as we would like. Because honestly, doing that kind of writing is like sticking my head down in the cold water and seeing what comes back up. And I never have control over what comes back up.

The other reason that essay was pivotal is because it changed the entire direction of the book I’ve been writing this year.
